Henry Arvidsson of Netherlands was Awarded: First Prize in category Photojournalism for the entry titled, " Beetween Wars - Iraq ." The jury selected 2008’s winners from thousands of photography entries from over 85 countries. Winning entries from each major category (Advertising, Photojournalism, Book, Fine Art, Nature, and Portraiture) are exhibited in Paris at the prestigious Galerie Acte 2 from June 26-28 and published in the high-quality, full-color Px3 Annual Book, which is distributed to galleries, agencies, publishers and bookstores worldwide. About the Winner: Henry Arvidsson is a civil engineer by training and have been photographing since 1980. A desire to get to the story behind the 30-second sound bite the news pumped out about the conflicts in the Middle East brought him to southern Lebanon as a United Nations Peace keeping soldier in 1988. The same year the blue helmets were awarded the Nobel Peace prize for the. His portfolio gained him entry into the International Center of Photography (ICP) Photojournalism program in New York, where he studied under the tutelage of some of photojournalism present day masters and interned at Magnum. In 1991 he landed a career-shaping assignment with the United Nations Special Commission (UNSCOM) to document the dismantling of Iraqs Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) programs. He remained in Baghdad until November 1996. Images from the UNSCOM inspection activities were published in major international media. Whenever possible, he walked the streets of Baghdad and photographed shop keepers, carpet washers and daily life in and around the lively souks. These images now form BETWEEN WARS - IRAQ - LIFE GOES ON.
